CV: EDHEC Business School graduate (2001). Bérangère did a two-year VIE (international experience opportunity for new European university graduates) in Mexico as a Plant Management Controller. Then she joined the multi-site Valeo Lighting Systems Europe Division as Reporting and Purchasing Controller. From 2005 to 2007 she worked as R&D and Project Controller for Valeo Security Systems. In 2007, she joined the Group’s Internal Audit Department (Valeo Management Services).

Q1. Why did you choose Valeo?
I first joined Valeo because of the international opportunities the Group offers to new graduates. Working as a VIE, I became aware of the importance of the Finance Department and saw that the Valeo Finance Network was really dynamic.

Q2. What are the main features of your job?
As an Internal Auditor, I work under the supervision of General Management but I spend more than half of my time in the field, working with local teams, encountering specific issues depending on the activity, the product or the country. The issues I deal with are not only financial but also involve purchasing, sales, logistics, projects, Human Resources…
Most of the time, there is a team of two auditors to perform the mission. Our missions’ objectives are varied: validating the level of Internal Control, evaluating the financial impact of identified risks and providing recommendations and improvement ideas for local teams, based on other business units’ best practices.

Q3. What next?
There are many possibilities, such as Financial Controller in a plant or Management Controller for a product family.

Q4. What are the necessary qualities for a new graduate or an intern who wishes to be an Internal Auditor?
To join the Internal Audit team, you must have 3 or 4 years of experience, be resourceful, curious, meticulous, have empathy and excellent interpersonal skills. You must also be able to adapt to the different cultures of the people we work with, and be persuasive in reporting and implementing your recommendations.
